Making Believe

Emmylou Harris

You know, it's almost worth being dumped to have this song to make you cry.

Making believe that you still love me
It's leaving me alone and so blue
Still I'll always dream, but I'll never own you
Making believe, its all I can do

Can't hold you close when you're not with me
You're somebody's love, you'll never be mine
Making believe I'll spend my lifetime
Loving you and making believe

Making believe I never lost you
But my happy hours are so few
My plans for the future will never come true
Making believe what else can I do

Orphan Girl

Emmylou Harris and Daniel Lanois

“Wait, wait.” I shook my head. “Let me get this straight. Are you telling me she has no mother?”

“She has no mother,” Madeline nodded.

“No father?” I asked, incredulous.

“No father.”

“No sister? No brother?”

“Look,” Madeline said. “I’m telling you, she is an orphan girl.”

"Huh." I scratched my head. "And I thought I had problems."

Love Hurts

Emmylou Harris and Elvis Costello

Madeline and I were walking in the park when we overheard Emmylou Harris and Elvis Costello singing “Love Hurts.” We sat and listened.

Whenever we part, we wind up singing this song. Madeline does a very fine impersonation of Emmylou.

Also for your viewing pleasure, here's the version that was on the radio when I was first hearing Elvis and Emmylou.
